If you see one ant in your home, there are probably hundreds, if not thousands, more lurking around. Using a spray against one or a few ants or applying it in a single location will essentially do nothing to deal with the issue. To cope with something on the scale of an ant infestation, you need to target the whole colony, including the queen. You can do that with ant bait solutions. Barrier treatments can keep ants from entering your home.
Prevent an Ant Problem
The best way to deal with ants is not to attract them in the first place. Ants often come into houses searching for food. Don’t leave food, including pet food, or dirty dishes out since those things will be likely to draw ants. Wash dishes or put them in the dishwasher right after using them, wipe counters, sweep and mop the floor regularly, and take out the trash frequently so you don’t attract ants into your kitchen.
Use Bait to Wipe out the Colony
A spray that is used in a localized area won’t take care of a widespread ant problem. To do that, you need to use bait to deal with the entire colony. Depending on the season, ants may prefer protein or sweet, fatty, or oily foods. You can use an ant bait to attract ants that are scouting for food. They will then carry the bait back to the colony, where it will poison others.
Use a Barrier Treatment to Keep Ants from Coming Back
